IRVINE, Calif. – On the opening day of the UCI Invitational, the No. 6 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team split a pair of matches. The Rainbow Wahine lost in overtime, 10-9, versus No. 13 UC San Diego, before bouncing back to defeat No. 18 San Diego State 10-6 in the day's second session.
In the morning session, UH and UCSD battled it out for four quarters before ending in an 8-8 tie at the end of regulation.
Each team scored one goal in two overtime periods to send the match into sudden death with the Tritons ultimately netting the game-winner. Rainbow Wahine junior

Danielle Lewis both contributed hat tricks in a losing effort.
After a morning session defeat, the Rainbow Wahine bounced back with a win over the Aztecs. Lewis shined bright again as she led UH with her second hat trick of the day. Senior
Amy Carlson accounted a total of 15 saves between the two matches.
UH returns to action on Sunday playing San Jose State at 9:15 a.m. PT.
