CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 6 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team cruised to an 18-6 victory over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Thursday at Axelrood Pool. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 5-2 with their third straight win.
Despite being out of competition for three weeks, the Rainbows showed no signs of rust. UH led 5-2 at the end of the first quarter and 11-3 at halftime, before cruising to victory in the final two quarters.
Eight different Rainbow Wahine scored in the runaway win with two players recording hat tricks. Senior
Danielle Lewis scored a career-high five goals, while sophomore
Paula Chillida Esforzado netted four goals. Together, the pair accounted for half of team's output.
The Rainbow Wahine next head to Irvine, Calif. for the UC Irvine Invitational, Feb. 22-23. UH opens the tournament against UC San Diego at 1:00 a.m. PT on Saturday.
