HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team swept NorCal Premier professional team in an exhibition match Tuesday night in three sets at the Stan Sheriff Center. Showcasing new talent, the 'Bows breezed past NorCal Premier 25-18, 25-18, and 25-21 and played a bonus set where they won 25-19.
13 letterwinners return to the squad, with four newcomers joining the 2014-15 roster.
In the main exhibition match, NCAA All-American
Taylor Averill, along with
Ryan Leung, who sat out last season, led the Rainbow Warriors' offense with 8 kills each. Averill also recorded 6 blocks, with senior
Davis Holt netting 5.
Kolby Kanetake held up the 'Bows defense with 10 digs.
Six Rainbow Warriors saw action through the bonus fourth set.
Zach Radner led the round with 5 kills alongside Averill (5 kills, 3 blocks). Radner and
Iain McKellar also recorded two blocks each.
The Rainbow Warriors return to action Jan.3 when they host Stevens Institute of Technology for their home-opener at the Stan Sheriff Center.
