HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team appeared to be in midseason form in an exhibition match against Canada's Thompson Rivers, Saturday night, at the Stan Sheriff Center. Before the match, both head coaches agreed to play all five sets to 25 regardless of the outcome of the match in an effort to play as many players as possible.

UH won three of the five sets, 25-18, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20 and 23-25 rebounding from a four-set loss in the teams' first exhibition match on Thursday.

All 17 eligible players saw action for the Rainbow Warriors as head coach Charlie Wade constantly tinkered with his lineup. Hawai'i did not commit a hitting error until late in the second set on their 48th swing and hit .636 in their 25-18 Set 1 victory. UH hit no lower than .414 in each of the first three sets.

After a rare off-night in the team's first exhibition match on Thursday, outside hitter Sinisa Zarkovic rebounded with a dominant performance on Saturday, tallying 10 kills with one error on .643 hitting in just two sets. Canadian Brook Sedore tallied nine kills on .368 hitting against his fellow countrymen while middle blocker Nick West went for seven kills in 10 swings.

Freshman Kupono Fey, a Punahou School product, ignited the loudest cheers from the crowd with eight kills on .462 hitting. Fellow freshman Hendik Mol added eight kills, five digs, and two blocks.

Brad Gunter led TRU for the second straight match with 21 kills, seven digs, and two aces while Casey Knight added 16 kills.

The Rainbow Warriors will officially open their season at next week's Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Invitational, Jan. 9-11. Competing with UH in the three-day round robin tournament are UCLA, Penn State, and Ohio State.
