Box Score
HAYWARD, Calif. – The sixth-ranked University of Hawai'i women's water polo team won in dominating fashion for the second straight game with a 20-2 rout of Cal State East Bay Friday afternoon at Pioneer Pool.
As in their quick start against Santa Clara a day earlier in their season opener, the Rainbow Wahine (2-0) jumped all over the Pioneers (1-1) from the get go. UH scored six goals in the first quarter, led 9-1 at the break and built its lead to 13-1 midway through the third quarter in cruising to victory.
Ten different players found the back of the net for the Rainbow Wahine and three players recorded a hat trick. Senior
Danielle Lewis and freshman
Chloe Barr each recorded four goals, while junior
Zoe Respondek tallied three.
Amy Carlson and
Sarah Logan split the duties in the cage, combining for 10 saves and just two goals allowed. UH's 18-goal margin of victory was its largest since defeating Concordia, 23-3, in 2010.
UH will continue its season-opening tour of Northern California with the Stanford Invitational Feb. 1-2. The Rainbow Wahine will open the tournament on Saturday morning versus conference rival UC Irvine before taking on host Stanford in the afternoon session.
