VIDEO: 2014 Season Preview

HONOLULU – The No. 7 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team begins its 2014 campaign on the road with six matches over the course of four days in Northern California.
 
The Rainbow Wahine open the season versus Santa Clara on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 5:00 p.m. PT at the Sullivan Aquatic Center. The Rainbow Wahine are a perfect 8-0 all-time against the Broncos, including a 16-6 win at Santa Clara last season. The next day UH will play at Cal State East Bay on Friday, Jan. 31 (4:00 p.m. PT).
 
Following those match, UH will head down the road for the Stanford Invitational, Feb. 1-2 at the Avery Aquatic Center. Hawai'i will face stiff competition on the first day of the tournament, opening against conference rival and No. 6 UC Irvine (10:00 a.m. PT) in the morning session, before playing tournament host and No. 2-ranked Stanford (3:30 p.m. PT) in the afternoon session.  
 
On day two of the invite, UH will wrap up pool play versus No. 18 UC Davis, before taking on an opponent to be determined later in the day.

UH welcomes back 11 letterwinners from last year's squad that captured the Big West Championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament. Among the returnees are all-Big West performers Paula Chillida Esforzado and Emily Carr. Chillida Esforzado, who tied the UH single-season assists record last year, is the team's leading returning scorer and scored five goals in UH's 17-5 exhibition win over the Alumnae this past Saturday.
 
Meanwhile, eight newcomers join the squad, headlined by Chloe Barr, a member of the Australian national team who tallied a hat trick versus the Alumnae.
