Playoffs On The Line As Men’s Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season

Match Notes

The 14th-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team closes out the regular season with a critical two-match Mountain Pacific Sports Federation series at UC San Diego, Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13 at the RIMAC Arena in La Jolla, Calif. Match time is 7:00 p.m. PT (4:00 p.m. HT) both nights.

In order for the Warriors (9-16, 8-14 MPSF) to qualify for the eight-team MPSF Tournament, UH will need to win both matches this week and Cal State Northridge needs to lose its match at No. 2 Long Beach State on Saturday. One loss by UH or a win by CSUN eliminates the Warriors from postseason play for the second straight year. UH and CSUN, which lost on Wednesday to UC Irvine, are battling for the eighth and final spot in the tournament.

Hawai'i took a much needed break from MPSF action last week and instead hosted its annual alumni match. Two weeks ago, the Warriors dropped a pair of matches to UC Santa Barbara to close out their home schedule.

The Tritons (7-20, 4-18), who are last in the 13-team MPSF standings, have lost nine of 10 matches, including a pair of home losses to Pacific and Stanford last weekend.

UH's 43 all-time wins over UCSD is the second most against an opponent in school history, trailing the 44 wins against Cal State Northridge. Over the last four seasons, the teams have split the eight matches.
