Rainbows Continue Homestand Against Wichita State

Series Notes

HONOLULU – After an eight-day rest, the University of Hawai'i baseball team will retake the field and host Wichita State in a five-game series beginning on Wednesday, Mar. 20 at Les Murakami Stadium. First pitch is set at 6:35 p.m. for the first four games and at 12:05 p.m. for the series finale on Sunday.

The 'Bows (2-15) have had a difficult start to the season but entered the lay-off after a 2-0 win in the series finale against Gonzaga, their first home win and shutout of the season. Matt Cooper (1-2) worked a complete game for the win while allowing just three hits with no walks. He was the first Rainbow pitcher to pitch a nine-inning shutout since Alex Capaul in 2010.

Marc Flores had the hot bat for the Rainbows against Gonzaga last week. In three games he hit .417 (5-12) while adding two runs and two RBI. He also belted UH's first homerun of the season and doubled on two other at bats.

Scott Squier had a performance in game three of the Gonzaga series almost equally as impressive as Cooper's. He threw nine complete innings of his own but did not factor in the decision as UH lost 3-1 in 12 innings. He allowed one run on four hits with six strikeouts but was lifted after finishing the ninth inning.

The Shockers lead the all-time series over the 'Bows 22-21. UH has won six of the last eight meetings.
