SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 8 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team trounced Princeton, 12-3, on the second day of the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State. The Rainbow Wahine improved to 11-6 with its fifth win in its last six matches.
UH finished the tournament with a 2-1 mark after splitting a pair of matches against Indiana (L, 8-6) and Bucknell (W, 10-4) the previous day at the Aztec Aquaplex.
The Rainbow Wahine led 5-2 at the half then opened the match up in the third quarter when they out-scored the Tigers, 4-0. Freshman
Paula Chillida Esforzado led the Rainbow Wahine with four goals.
Monika Eggens also registered a hat trick with three goals.
Clair Babinski tended goal for the Rainbow Wahine and stopped eight Princeton shots, while holding the Tigers to just three goals, tied for a season-low by a UH opponent.
The Rainbow Wahine now return home for their next five matches at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex, beginning with a showdown against former conference nemesis USC on Saturday, March 23 at 6 p.m.
