No. 20/23 Hawai`i Hosts High-Powered Chevron Spring Fling Tourney

HONOLULU—The No. 20/23 University of Hawai'i softball team (17-5, 0-0 Big West) concludes its non-conference tournaments this week with the Chevron Spring Fling tourney which runs from March 13-16. The high-caliber invitational features No. 5 California (20-2), No. 19 Baylor (22-3), Syracuse (5-10) and Utah (13-6-1). The 'Bows are at the tail end of a three-week homestand in which they will have played 19 games in 18 days at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
 
Four Rainbow Wahine are hitting over the .300 mark—led by senior centerfielder Kelly Majam. Majam is hitting .354 (23-for-65) and leads UH with 23 hits, 22 runs scored, seven home runs, 16 walks, a .488 on-base percentage,  .754 slugging percentage and she is 5-for-5 in stolen bases. Freshman rightfielder/pitcher Keiki Carlos has been a solid hitter in the No. 2 slot in the order for UH. She is hitting .322 (19-for-59) with 11 of her 19 hits going for extra bases. Carlos leads the 'Bows with eight doubles.
 
Reigning Big West Player of the Week, sophomore first baseman/designated player Leisha Li'ili'i has come on strong this past week, raising her average to .309. Last week, she helped lead Hawai´i to a 3-0 record at the Pepsi Malihini Kipa Aloha Tournament. She posted six hits in eight at bats for a .750 average during the tournament. Li`ili`i launched a pair of home runs and had nine RBI as the Rainbow Wahine swept Portland State, 7-0 and 8-3, and routed East Carolina by an 8-0 score in six innings.


Sophomore Kayla Wartner has also been steady, hitting .303 on the season. She is second on the team with 16 runs scored and five home runs. She leads UH with three triples.
