IRVINE, Calif. - No. 9 University of Hawai'i (6-5, 0-0 Big West) dropped two matches Sunday afternoon to conclude the UC Irvine Invitational at the Corona Del Mar Pool. UH first fell to California, 10-6, and was later upset by host UC Irvine, 10-9.

After rallying back and forth for three quarters straight, the Rainbow Wahine were tied with the Golden Bears 6-6 going into the final period. However, UH was unable to pull through after California powered in four goals in the fourth for a 10-6 win over the Rainbow Wahine.

Paula Chillida Esforzado led UH with a hat trick, while Emily Carr, Caity Lopes da Silva and Monika Eggens added one goal each.

The Rainbow Wahine suffered an even more heartbreaking loss in the final game of the night when they fell short to the Anteaters by just one goal after leading by one point to end the third. UH and UC Irvine matched each other goal-for-goal in both the first and second quarters, but the Rainbow Wahine pulled ahead 9-8 in the third.

Eggens recorded a hat trick for the Rainbow Wahine, while Esforzado, Carr, Zoe Respondek, Monique Wilson, Amarens Genee and Danielle Lewis added one each.

The Rainbow Wahine return to action on Mar. 6 when they host Michigan at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
