CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 8 University of Hawai`i women's water polo team returned to action on the road picking up an emphatic 21-5 over Claremont at Axelrod Pool.
The Rainbow Wahine, who played their first match in nearly three weeks, showed little rust, cruising to the win and improving to 5-2 on the young season. All seven of UH's matches have come on the road in California. Claremont, meanwhile, dropped to 1-7 overall with its fourth straight loss.
Hawai`i was led by senior
Monika Eggens who had five goals and one assist. Her five goals tied a season high. Sophomore
Emily Carr added four goals, while freshman
Paula Chillida Esforzado tallied a game-high four assists.
The game served as a tune-up for this weekend's UC Irvine Invitational. UH will open the 16-team, two-day tournament on Saturday, Feb. 23 versus San Jose State at 10:15 a.m. PT (8:15 a.m. HT).
