No. 20 Hawai`i Travels to Las Vegas for Easton Desert Classic Tourney

LAS VEGAS—The No. 20/23 University of Hawai'i softball team (5-1, 0-0 Big West) travels to Las Vegas, Nev. for their first roadtrip of the year in UNLV's Easton Desert Classic, Feb. 14-17. The Rainbow Wahine will take on BYU, San Jose State, No.19/18 UCLA, No. 7/9 Oregon, Utah Valley, and Nevada.
 
The Rainbow Wahine moved up to No. 20 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association/USA Today Poll and No. 23 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll after going 5-1 in the opening weekend of play. Hawai'i defeated Ole Miss twice, UAB and St. Mary's one and split with No. 16 Washington in their six games in the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
 
Senior pitcher Kaia Parnaby will shoulder much of the pitching responsibilities this season. The reigning Big West Pitcher of the Week threw in all six games this past week, posting a 3-1 record with two saves. She Parnaby threw 31.2 innings while striking out 39 batters and walking three, blanking opposing teams for her first 27.1 innings pitched before she gave up a pair of runs against Washington in her sixth appearance of the three-day tourney. Parnaby fired three complete-game shutouts and tossed 31.2 of 42 innings for UH during the week. 
 
On offense, the Rainbow Wahine were led by junior outfielder Sharla Kliebenstein who hit .333 in the tournament. She was 5-for-15 at the plate with a double and three RBI while sophomore catcher Kayla Wartner hit .313 (5-for-16) scoring three runs with two doubles.

UH vs. BYU – BYU leads 7-2, with the Cougars winning last two
UH vs. SJSU – UH leads, 70-27. The 'Bows won 2-of-3 during the WAC season and defeated the Spartans 5-1 at the 2012 WAC Tournament, 5-1 on May 10, 2012
UH vs. UCLA – UCLA leads 15-4 with Bruins winning last two. Last meeting was at the 2010 Women's College World Series with UCLA winning 5-2 on June 4, 2010 
UH vs. Oregon – Oregon leads series 11-8, with the Ducks winning the last eight meetings.
UH vs. Utah Valley – UH leads UVU, 1-0 with their only meeting coming on the road in Orem, Utah last season on April 4, 2012, 6-1
UH vs. Nevada – UH leads Nevada, 23-18. Last season UH won the series in Reno, 2-1 but the Wolf Pack won the last game, 4-0 on April 21, 2012.
