Women’s Water Polo Overwhelms Santa Clara

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The 11th-ranked University of Hawai'i women's water polo team picked up its second straight road win to start the season defeating host Santa Clara, 16-6, Friday afternoon at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.
 
Senior Monika Eggens led the way for the Rainbow Wahine scoring a match-high four goals. Amarens Genee added three goals for UH, as did freshman Paula Chillida Esforzado.
 
One day after routing Sonoma State, 16-3, in its season opener, the Rainbow Wahine again put together an impressive performance. UH jumped out to an early 5-1 advantage in the first period and held a commanding 11-3 lead by halftime in  spoiling Santa Clara's (1-4) home opener. Senior Hannah Houge recorded five saves in goal for the Rainbow Wahine.
 
UH next heads to Palo Alto for the Stanford Invitational Feb. 2-3. Joining the Rainbow Wahine and the host Cardinal in the tournament are UC Davis, San Jose State, UCLA, California and Indiana.
