Match Notes

The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team continues its two-week homestand by hosting No. 3 Stanford for a two-match Mountain Pacific Sports Federation series Feb. 1 & 2 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

The red-hot Warriors (3-6, 2-4 MPSF) are coming off a two-match sweep of then-No. 2 Pepperdine last weekend. UH out-lasted the Waves in five sets in the opener, then won in straight sets in the rematch. Hawai'i has won its last three home matches and have played five five-set matches through nine contests this season.

Freshman Sinisa Zarkovic and sophomore Brook Sedore sparked the Warriors over the weekend. Zarkovic, an outside hitter from Belgrade, Serbia, averaged 4.25 kills per set and hit .393 and earned MPSF Player of the Week honors. Sedore, an opposite from Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, averaged 4.00 kills per set and hit .407. For the series, the duo led the Warriors to a team hitting percentage of .351 against the league's top blocking team.

The Cardinal (6-2, 3-2) won both of its matches last week against UCLA and UC Santa Barbara at Maples Pavilion. Stanford is 0-2 on the road this season with losses to USC and Pepperdine. Outside hitter Brian Cook leads the Cardinal with a 4.25 kill average, which ranks among the league's leaders.
