HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's basketball team fell victim to an impressive offensive display in a 93-82 loss to UC Davis  Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Aggies' Corey Hawkins poured in 40 points—including seven three-pointers in the first half alone—to hand UH its first conference home loss of the year.

Hawkins 40 points were the second-most ever scored in the 19-year history of Stan Sheriff Center. The sophomore guard shot 10-of-14 from the field, including 8-of-9 on three-pointers. He also grabbed 12 rebounds and went a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line.

Hawkins was the point man in an incredible shooting night for UC Davis. The Aggies hit 16 three-pointers, tying an opponent team record, and did nearly all the damage in the first half. UC Davis went 14-of-21 from behind the arc in the first 20 minutesto take a 54-37 lead into the locker room.

The Rainbow Warriors (10-8, 4-3 Big West), who won their first three league games, have now dropped three of their last four to fall into a tie for third in the Big West standings. UCD, meanwhile improved to 7-10 overall 3-3 in the Big West with its second straight road win.

Christian Standhardinger led UH with 20 points and added eight rebounds. Vander Joaquim recorded his sixth double-double of the year with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while Isaac Fotu and Brandon Spearman each finished with 10 points.

UC Davis came out blazing hitting 10 of its first 16 shots, including seven three-pointers to take a 28-14 lead midway through the first half. But UH used some tenacious pressure defense to get back in the game and a Brandon Jawato's three-pointer got UH within 30-28 just minutes later.

But that's when Hawkins took over. The son of former NBA player Hersey Hawkins nailed six three pointers  in the final seven minutes of the half as the Aggies closed with a 24-9 to take a commanding 17-point lead at the break.

UH, which trailed by as many as 19 points in the second half, didn't quit and made its best effort for a comeback. However, the Aggies turned back every UH rally, as the 'Bows would get no closer than seven points late in the game.

Hawai'i will now head to road for their next four Big West games. First up for the Rainbow Warriors is a meeting with Cal Poly on Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT).
