SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of Hawai'i women's indoor track and field team made an impressive debut to the 2013 season at the UW Indoor Preview, Saturday, at Dempsey Indoor on the campus of the University of Washington.
The Ranbow Wahine set two school records, including junior
Ashley Satterwhite who broke the 60-meter dash record twice – once in prelims (7.83) and the other in the final (7.79), where she placed ninth. Junior
Melody Papalii broke the school's 600-meter record with a time of 1:38.17.
Freshman
Charlinda Ioane, a Kapolei High School graduate, threw a personal best in the shot put (45-1.75/13.76m) and placed third. In the same competition,
Alex Porlier Langlois was fifth with a throw of 42-4 (12.90m).
Senior
Samantha Balentine placed third in the high jump with a leap of 5-5.75 (1.67m) while junior
Amanda Alvarez was runner-up in the triple jump with an opening leap of 38-9 (11.81m).
The UW Preview was the first of four trips for the Rainbow Wahine to Seattle this season. UH will also compete in the UW Invitational (Jan. 25-26), Husky Classic (Feb. 8-9), and UW Open (Feb. 10). The indoor squad will compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation. The conference meet will also take place in Seattle, Wash., Feb. 22-23.
