Streaking Rainbows Travel To Sacramento State, UC Davis

Game Notes

HONOLULU – Coming off its sweep of New Mexico State, the University of Hawai'i baseball team will travel to Sacramento State in hopes of maintaining the top spot in the Western Athletic Conference. The Rainbows and Hornets will play Friday, May 11 (3:00 p.m. PT, 12:00 p.m. HT), Saturday, May 12 (1:00 p.m. PT, 10:00 a.m. HT), and Sunday, May 13 (1:00 p.m. PT, 10:00 a.m. HT). Hawai'i comes in at 28-18 overall and 8-4 in the WAC and Sac State is 26-23 overall and 8-7 in conference.

Following its series with the Hornets Hawai'i will play UC Davis (18-26, 6-9 Big West) for the second time this season, this time in Davis, Calif. and for just one game. The 'Bows and Aggies face off on Monday, May 14, at 2:30 p.m. PT.

After their three-game sweep of New Mexico State, the Rainbows now lead both Nevada and the Aggies by two full games for the top spot in the conference. The Aggies led the nation with 9.1 runs per game coming into the series but, against stingy Hawai'i pitching, managed just four total runs in the three contests. UH capped the series with a 1-0 win as four pitchers combined for the shutout.

Collin Bennett leads the 'Bows at the plate with a .327 batting average to go along with 24 runs and 24 RBI. Stephen Ventimilia has a WAC-best 13 stolen bases and is second on the team with a .308 batting average while also leading in runs (35) and hits (53). Zack Swasey caught fire during the New Mexico State series, batting .545 (6-11) with three runs and a pair of RBI.

After showing some susceptibility during its last road trip, the Rainbow pitching staff returned to form against the Aggies. UH boasts two bullpen hurlers with a sub-2.00 ERA and Kyle Dowdy stands at 2.05. Of the starting rotation, Jarrett Arakawa leads with a 2.36 ERA and 60 strikeouts. Matt Sisto has a team-best eight wins (8-3) and this past Thursday allowed just one run in seven innings against a potent NMSU offense. Scott Squier (3-3, 3.04 ERA) started and pitched 4.1 innings in UH's game-three shutout, his team-high third combined shutout of the season.
