LONG BEACH, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's sand volleyball team concluded its inaugural regular season by splitting a pair of dual matches against Long Beach State and Loyola Marmount. UH fell 4-1 to the host 49ers, while blanking LMU, 5-0, in a neutral site matchup.
 
UH finished with a 4-6 dual match record in its first season, while playing a half dozen of its matches this past weekend in Southern California.
 
The 49ers (6-4), who yesterday earned one of four spots into the AVCA National Championships, were simply too much for the Rainbow Wahine in the first match. LBSU took four courts in straight sets. UH's lone point came at the No. 2 flight where the duo of Emily Hartong and Elizabeth Stoltzman took down Libby Fontanilla and Haleigh Hampton in a hotly-contested battle, 24-22, 21-17.
 
Hartong and Stoltzman went 2-0 on the day, also leading the charge in UH's 5-0 shutout of LMU (0-9) during the back end of UH's doubleheader with a 21-15, 21-17 victory over Felicia Arriola and Ashley DeWitt. The Rainbow Wahine were dominant against the Lions, winning in straight sets on all five courts.
 
The season does continue for a quartet of Rainbow Wahine. The duos of Hartong-Stoltzman and Jane Croson-Ashley Lee will compete in the AVCA Collegiate Sand Volleyball National Championships, April 27 & 29 in Gulf Shores, Ala. Competition will begin on April 27 with pool play in the pairs competition. Pool play results will then determine seeding for a 16-team, single elimination tournament to be held on Sunday, April 29 to determine a pairs national champion.
