CLAREMONT, Calif. - The No. 16 University of Hawai`i women's water polo team concluded its regular season Sunday afternoon at the Matt M. Axelrood Pool. UH came out with two victories over Claremont-McKenna, 9-3 and Occidental, 15-9.
The Rainbow Wahine (8-12, 0-7 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) ran away with the first match over Claremont-McKenna, blowing out the Athenas from the start to take the match 9-3 at the end. In the next game, UH had another landslide victory over the Tigers, 15-9.
UH converted four consecutive 6-on-5's to take a 4-0 lead midway through the first quarter. The Tigers didn't score until two minutes left in the quarter, and the Rainbow Wahine attacked again with another power play goal to finish the first with a 5-1 lead.
The Rainbow Wahine dominated the second scoring five unanswered goals to take a 10-1 lead at the half. In the second half, Occidental was able to outscore UH 8-3 until the end, but it wasn't enough to come back and steal the lead.
Junior
Amarens Genee led UH with four goals, while Tessa Bailey-Findley scored four for Occidental.
The Rainbow Wahine now prepare to head to the MPSF Championships, which will be held from Apr. 27-29, hosted by Stanford.
