TEMPE, Ariz. - The No. 16 University of Hawaii women's water polo team split a pair of matches to No. 5 Arizona State and No. 17 Cal Baptist this afternoon at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
UH (8-12, 0-7 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) dropped its last conference match-up to the Sun-Devils, 11-6, wrapping up the season with no conference victories. However, the Rainbow Wahine came back later in the afternoon with a much-needed win over Cal Baptist, 9-7.
Despite a 3-3 tie to end the first quarter, the Sun-Devils kept UH silent in the second to gain a comfortable 5-3 lead at halftime. UH put in three goals in the second half, but it wasn't enough to match the Sun-Devils' six going to buzzer.
Junior
Amarens Genee led the Rainbow Wahine with two goals, while
Danielle Lewis,
Emily Carr,
Emily Scott and
Sivan Pardon added one each. Annabelle Carter led the Sun-Devils with four goals.
In their second game of the day, the Rainbow Wahine were able to come back with a strong start, outscoring Cal Baptist 2-1 to end the first quarter, and 3-2 in the second quarter, for a 5-3 lead at halftime.
Cal Baptist made a close attempt to come back in the third, outscoring UH 3-2, but the Rainbow Wahine sealed the 9-7 win in the fourth with two final goals.
Genee had another leading game with four goals for UH. Tania Acavedo and Laura Kocsis led CBU with two goals each.
