Match Notes
The 14th-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team continues its current Mountain Pacific Sports Federation road trip with a pair of matches against No. 3 Stanford, Tuesday, March 6 and Wednesday, March 7 at Burnham Pavilion. Start time for both matches is 7:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT).
The Warriors (6-11, 3-9 MPSF) recently dropped two matches at No. 4 USC over the weekend. UH has lost its last six league matches – on three series sweeps – against three of the league's top teams, UC Irvine, UCLA, and USC.
It doesn't get any easier as the Warriors will next play the Cardinal (13-4, 10-3), who dropped a spot to No. 3 nationally in this week's poll after losing a four-set match over the weekend to UC Irvine in Stanford, Calif. Stanford is currently tied with UCI in the league standings in second place with a 10-3 mark.
On the other hand, Hawai'i dropped to a tie for 10th in the standings with UC Santa Barbara at 3-9. With one month remaining in the regular season, the Warriors need to finish in the top eight to qualify for their third consecutive MPSF Tournament. Following this week's series, the Warriors will next host Brigham Young, who is fourth in the league standings and No. 5 nationally.
After losing four straight matches in straight sets and dropping 16 consecutive games, UH took USC to the limit on Sunday, before falling 15-10 in the fifth set.
