Pool Play Results
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Highlighted by the performances of its top two tandems, the University of Hawai'i sand volleyball team completed the first day of the North Florida Sand Invitational Saturday at the Jacksonville Beach sand courts.
The seven-team tournament saw three weather delays on the first day pushing back completion of pool play to Sunday morning. Bracket play will follow with the top two teams from each pool along with the top two third-place finishers (based on point differential) advancing to Sunday's "Gold" bracket. The remaining third-place pool finishers along with the fourth-place finishers in each pool will comprise the "Silver" bracket. The "Bronze" bracket will include all the fifth-place pool finishers.
UH's top-tandem of
Emily Hartong and
Elizabeth Stoltzman were perfect on the first day posting a 8-0 mark in eight sets of pool play. They completed their pool schedule and are locked into the “Gold" bracket.
Jane Croson and
Ashley Lee, the No. 2 pairing, all but assured themselves a spot in the “Gold" bracket ending day one with an undefeated mark (6-0) with one match remaining in pool play. The No. 4 team of
Ginger Long and
Elizabeth Blake finished third in their pool with a 5-3 mark but are in strong contention for a berth into the “Gold” bracket due to point differential.
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine were No. 3 seed
Larissa Nordyke and
Mita Uiato (1-5) and No. 5 seed
Alex Griffiths and
Monica Stauber (2-4). Both of those tandems will complete pool play on Sunday and will be placed in either the “Silver” or “Bronze” brackets.
Following the completion of pool play on Sunday morning, teams will be divided into the three brackets with play starting at approximately 9:30 a.m. ET.
