STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 10 University of Hawai`i women's water polo team (2-3, 0-1 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) finished fifth Sunday afternoon in the Stanford Invitational. UH dropped its first match, 8-4 against No. 2 California but came back with an 11-7 win over No. 5 San Jose State.
The Rainbow Wahine opened their first match against the Golden Bears trailing 5-2 at halftime. They attempted to make a comeback in the third, putting two points on the board, but remained silent in the final quarter while Cal polished off the victory.

Sivan Pardon led the Rainbow Wahine with two goals.
UH made a strong comeback in the afternoon to take the fifth place finish over San Jose State. The last time the Rainbow Wahine met with the Spartans, they lost, 11-9 in a heartbreaking match in the first round of the MPSF championship tournament.
The Rainbow Wahine led by one point, 4-3 at halftime. The Spartans matched them goal-for-goal in the third, each putting three points on the board, but UH took off with the lead in the final quarter, putting in four goals for the victory.

UH returns to action on Feb. 23 when they take on No. 2 USC in conference play.
