IRVINE, Calif. – The No. 6 University of Hawai`i women's water polo team finished 13^th at the UC Irvine Invitational at the Corona del Mar pool after winning two games against Long Beach State, 6-4 and No. 13 UC Davis, 7-6. UH now improves to a 4-6, 0-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record.
 
The Rainbow Wahine footed an early from the start against the 49ers which held up until the end. They outscored LBSU 3-1 in the first quarter and kept them silent in the second for a strong 4-1 lead going to halftime.
 
The two teams tied 1-1 in the third and the 49ers played a late game of catch-up in the final quarter outscoring UH 2-1, but the Rainbow Wahine held on for a 6-4 victory to go to the 13^th place match.
 
It was a team effort for UH as Amarens Genee, Danielle Lewis and Caity Lopes da Silva combined for the six points with two goals each.
 
In their final match of the tournament against No. 13 UC Davis, the Rainbow Wahine hung on to slide past the Aggies for the final say. UH held a strong 4-2 lead at halftime, but the Aggies made a comeback in the third, outscoring the Rainbow Wahine 3-2 to bring themselves within just one point.
 
Both teams matched 1-1 in the final quarter, but it was the Rainbow Wahine that took the match for 13^th place, 7-6.
 
Amarens Genee led UH with two goals, while Emily Carr, Kathryn Teets, Sivan Pardon, Monique Wilson and Emily Scott all added one each.
 
Next the Rainbow Wahine return home to host Stanford in MPSF play at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex on Mar. 10.
