Parnaby Fans 14, Hawai'i Tops Alumnae 9-0

Kayla Wartner and Alyssa Villalpando both homered, Kaia Parnaby recorded 14 strikeouts and the University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine softball team topped the UH Alumnae on Friday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Kaia Parnaby was unhittable, fanning 14 of the 17 Alumnae hitters she faced. She tossed five scoreless innings before freshman Keiki Carlos pitched two scoreless innings of her own to finish the game. Starter Kate Robinson was the pitcher of record for the Alumnae. She allowed three runs and recorded six strikeouts in four complete innings of work. Robinson also had the lone base hit for the Alumnae.

Kaile Nakao batted 2-3 with one run and two RBI which included a two-run double in UH's six-run fifth inning. Kelly Majam had one hit and two runs scored, and Wartner finished with two hits and four RBI.

Hawai'i jumped on the board early with two runs in the first inning. Wartner, after Majam walked to open the game, belted her two-run shot to give her team the early lead. Majam tripled to lead off the third inning then came home on a sacrifice fly by Wartner to increase the lead to 3-0.

The 'Bows put the game away with their big sixth inning. Villalpando's two-run homer and Nakao's two-RBI double keyed the big inning for the Rainbow Wahine.

Hawai'i concludes Fall play with an intrasquad scrimmage on Kauai this Sunday, Nov. 11. The scrimmage will be followed by a youth softball clinic conducted by head coach Bob Coolen his staff and the players.
