HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i softball team opened its fall season with a 19-0 mercy-rule win over Kumamoto International College on Friday night.
Kaia Parnaby and
Keiki Carlos combined to toss a perfect game while the offense tallied 19 runs on 21 hits—including home runs by
Kayla Wartner and Sharla Kleibenstein—on the first day of the Fall Paradise Classic at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Carlos, the rookie pitcher from Mid-Pacific Institute, closed the game, getting a pair of groundouts and a swinging strike out.
The 'Bows offense batted around the order in each of the first three innings. UH got off to a fast start by posting five runs in the first inning with
Kelly Majam leading the home half of the first inning off with a single.
Kayla Wartner followed by drilling a home run over the right field fence. Leisha Li`ili`i kept things going with an opposite-field double to left. UH went on to score three more runs in the first frame.
In the second inning, the first six batters scored on five hits and two walks. The inning was highlighted by a two-RBI single through the left side of the infield by
Kaile Nakao and a two-run double by Wartner, who went 3-for-4 on the night with four RBI, two runs scored a home run and a double.
Hawai`i kept the scoring going, racking up seven more runs in the third inning. Iwata doubled to the left-centerfield gap to start the inning and scored on a home run by Kliebenstein. After a walk to Nakao, the 'Bows rattled off three consecutive singles followed by another walk—all with no outs. The first out off the frame came on a sacrifice fly by Wartner and then the Kumamoto pitcher got two flyouts to center and left to end the hitting barrage.
