WAIMEA, Kaua`i—The University of Hawai`i softball team played an Intrasquad Scrimmage on the island of Kaua`i at the Waimea Canyon Park on Sunday afternoon. The UH-Grey squad overpowered the UH-Green team, 16-4. Leisha Li`ili`i and Sharla Kliebensten both launched home runs for the Grey while Kaia Parnaby earned the win after throwing four complete innings.

Parnaby gave up one run on one hit with no outs. Loie Kesterson threw the final three innings, giving up three runs on three hits with three strike outs.

The Green jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Green got their first run after Brynne Buchanan scored on a double steal with Kiani Wong going to second. Later with two outs, Austin Wilkerson drilled a single up the middle to drive in both Wong and Sharla Kliebenstein who had walked.

In the second inning, the Grey added four more runs on a grand slam that sailed over the rightfield fence by Li`ili`i. All four runs however were unearned in the inning after an error extended the inning to make the score 7-0.

The Green got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning posting one run. Ciana Russ hit a double to the right-centerfield gap and then later scored on a fielding error off a ball hit by Kelly Majam.

In the bottom of the fourth the Grey tacked on four more runs to extend their lead to 11-1. Wong scored on a fielding error and later Kliebenstein crushed a home run to leftfield to score Kristina Akiona and Li`ili`i. The Grey added another run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly to center by Li`ili`i to score Wong from third.

The Grey continued their scoring in the bottom of the sixth. Lauren Parnaby started things off with a single to left and then Stacy Rosengren reached safely on a fielder's choice. Buchanan then got a hard hit that ricocheted off the pitcher to load the bases for Wong who hit a single through the left-side of the infield and then a fielding error by the leftfielder allowed the ball to roll to the fence to clear the bases. Later, Kesterson drove in Wong with an RBI-single to right to give the Grey a 16-1 lead.

The Green fought back in the seventh, posting three runs. Jessica Iwata reached first on a fielding error on the third baseman. Kaile Nakao then laced a double to the right-centerfield gap to push pinch runner Jordan Burton to third. Jazmine Zamora then ripped a double past the third baseman down the leftfield line to score both Burton and Nakao to complete the scoring on the day.

Keiki Carlos took the loss, giving up 16 runs—six of which were earned—with five walks and four strike outs.

The intrasquad scrimmage concludes the fall-game schedule for the Rainbow Wahine. The 'Bows open their 2013 season with the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic with Washington, UAB (Alabama-Birmingham), Ole Miss, and St. Mary's all coming to Honolulu.
