SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The No. 5 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team (14-6) breezed past No. 8 Loyola Marymount, 16-8 on Friday, in the opening match of the Santa Clara Invitational at the Sullivan Aquatic Center.
UH got off to a slow start and barely held onto the lead, 7-6 at halftime. The Rainbow Wahine gradually broke away from the Lions in the third, outscoring them 4-2. In the final quarter, UH shut out LMU, 5-0 and swam away with a landslide victory.
Junior Monika Eggens scored a career-high seven goals to lead UH. Next the Rainbow Wahine will take a break from the Santa Clara Invitational and head down the road to face No. 1 Stanford in a conference match-up on Saturday, Apr. 9 at 6:00 p.m. PT at the Avery Aquatic Center.
