HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i junior high jumper
Sarah Saddleton equaled her personal best with a clearance of 5-10 (1.80m) at the Rainbow Relays, Saturday at the Clarence T.C. Ching Field.
The Auckland, New Zealand native matched her PR most recently set in her silver-medal winning performance at last year's Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships in Ruston, La. She easily cleared her opening three heights of 5-7 (1.70m), 5-8.75 (1.75m), and 5-10 (1.80m) but failed on three attempts at 6-0 (1.83m).
In the hammer throw event, a pair of Rainbow Wahine throwers set new PRs. Newcomer
Joanna Franke-Kuhn moved into fourth on the school's all-time list with a heave of 174-4 (53.15m), breaking her previous PR of 171-8 (52.34m). Senior
Anika Borden also threw 169-0 (51.52m) which was a new PR, breaking a mark she set earlier this season.
On the oval, freshman
Kevyn Murphy clocked in at 11:49.44 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, a mark that ranks ninth all-time.
In the javelin competition, junior
Kellsey Trimble posted a huge seasonal-best of 139-11 (42.66m), which moved her to fifth on the all-time list. Also posting season-best marks were junior
Mallory Ramsey in the pole vault (11-5.75/3.50m);
Careena Onosai in the discus; (146-3/44.59m); and
Samantha Balentine in the long jump (16-8.5/5.09m).
The Rainbow Wahine will next compete in the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner Kersee Invitational, April 7-9, hosted by UCLA in Los Angeles.
