Rainbow Baseball Shutdown By Bulldogs

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team was defeated Sunday by Louisiana Tech, 3-0. The Rainbows suffer their first WAC loss of the season, falling to 6-1 in conference and 20-15 overall. The Bulldogs improve to 3-4 and 18-17. 

Zach Swasey (3-4) led the 'Bows in the losing effort. Collin Bennett batted 2-4 with Kolten Wong and Pi'ikea Kitamura each adding one hit. 

Connor Little (3-2) equaled a career-high eight strikeouts in the losing effort, allowing three runs in six innings of work. Mike Jefferson (4-2) pitched eight shutout innings to earn the win for LaTech. 

The Bulldogs scored all three runs in the opening inning. Alex Williams (1-4, 2 RBI) delivered a two-RBI base hit through the left side of the infield to spearhead the big inning. 

The Rainbows had the bases loaded just one inning later, but a strikeout and ground out ended the inning. 

There were 3,033 tickets sold for the contest, and a turnstile count of 1,758. 

The Rainbows and Bulldogs play their series finale Monday. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
