Rainbow Baseball Rallies To Top LMU

LOS ANGELES – The University of Hawai'i baseball team defeated Loyola Marymount today, 9-7. The Rainbows improve to 5-5 on the season while LMU falls to 8-4.

Blair Walters (3-1) captured his team-high third win for UH, pitching two and two-thirds innings allowing no runs on just one hit. Ryan Hawthorne (0-1) was tagged with the loss in a relief effort.

Zack Swasey posted three hits, one run, and one RBI to lead the 'Bows who are now 2-1 on the road trip. Matt Harrison batted 2-4 with three runs and one RBI, and Jeffrey Van Doornum added two hits, one run, and one RBI.

Joe Vierra and Matt Koch led the Lions, each recording two hits, one run, and one RBI.

LMU opened up a 4-0 lead after plating three fourth-inning runs. Bret Dahlson (1-3, 3 RBI) delivered a two-RBI double to help the Lions to the big inning. UH then caught up all at once with four runs in the fifth inning. Van Doornum and Michael Blake (1 H, 1 RBI) both recorded RBI's in the inning to tie the game at 4-4.

Hawai'i would find themselves training once again, as a Vierra lead-off home run in the sixth inning put the Lions ahead 7-6. In the eighth inning though, Van Doornum and Blake would again record RBI's to guide the 'Bows to a 9-7 lead and the win.

UH and LMU play the final game of their series tomorrow, March 6, at 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
