Rainbows Fall To Wichita State

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team fell to Wichita State Thursday, 6-2. The Rainbows drop to 12-14 while the Shockers improve to 18-9. 

Matt Sisto (1-4) was tagged with the loss for UH. He tossed seven and one-third innings allowing four earned runs on seven hits, and equaled a season-high seven strikeouts. Josh Smith (4-1) pitched seven innings to earn the win for WSU. He allowed no runs with seven strikeouts. 

Zack Swasey (2-4, 1 R) and Kalani Brackenridge (2-4, 1 RBI) led the 'Bows, who fell short in a ninth-inning comeback bid.  

Chris O'Brien paced WSU with two hits, one run, and five RBI. The Shockers plated one run each in the first and third innings, and broke the game open with four runs in the eighth inning. O'Brien hit a bases-clearing double, then was driven home from third by Tyler Coughenour base hit.  

Brackenridge and Collin Bennett hit RBI singles in the ninth inning, but the rally fell short. 

There were 2,560 tickets sold for the contest, and a turnstile count of 1,304. 

Hawai'i and Wichita State continue their series Friday. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
