HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team lost today to Cal State Fullerton, 3-2. The Titans complete the sweep over the Rainbows to improve to 16-8, as UH falls to 11-13. The Rainbows suffered their first home non-conference sweep since 2008 (Long Beach State).
Zach Gallagher (3-1) suffered his first loss of the season, allowing three runs on seven hits in six and two-thirds innings. David Hurlbut (1-0) earned the win for Fullerton, tossing five innings allowing no runs on three hits.
Kolten Wong (2-4, 1 RBI) returned to the lineup after sitting out yesterday with a shoulder injury. He and Breland Almadova (2-4, 1 R) led the 'Bows at the plate. Thomas Ivory and Anthony Trajano led the Titans, each posting two hits and one run.
The Rainbows trailed 3-0 before rallying in the eighth inning. Almadova kick started the inning with a double and was later driven home by Wong. Pi'ikea Kitamura also recorded an RBI in the inning to cut the Titan lead to 3-2. But Jeff Van Doornum (1-4) grounded out to end the rally and UH went scoreless in the ninth.
There were 2,966 tickets sold for the contest and a turnstile count of 1,803.
The Rainbows next host Wichita State in another four-game series. First pitch of game one is set for 6:35 p.m. this Wednesday, March 30.
