Water Polo Makes Quick Work Of UCSD

HONOLULU – The No. 5 University of Hawai`i women's water polo team (13-5) earned its second victory of the night over UC San Diego (8-13), 13-4, at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

UH dominated the first three quarters of the match, scoring 10 unanswered goals until the end of the third period. UCSD came back to match UH 2-2 in the final quarter, but the Rainbow Wahine took the victory in a landslide, 13-4.

Carmen and Monika Eggens each led UH with four goals, while Felicia Orozco scored two for UCSD.

Kirsten Bates scored the first goal of the match for the Tritons, but the Rainbow Wahine shut them out with a five-goal run into halftime. After Carmen Eggens created a manageable 4-1 lead with three back-to-back goals in the first half, the Rainbow Wahine never looked back.

UH will play an exhibition match against Australia tomorrow, Mar. 26 at 1:00 p.m., and will continue its regular season in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Saturday, Apr. 2 at 6:00 p.m. at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
