Water Polo Pulls Away From CS East Bay

HONOLULU – The No. 5 University of Hawai`i women's water polo team (12-5) defeated Cal State East Bay, 15-8 in a non-conference match Friday afternoon at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

UH held a tight 7-5 lead in the first half, but pulled away in the second half when they outscored the Pioneers (14-8), 8-3. Nine different Rainbow Wahine got in the scoring column, led by freshman Kelly McKee, who scored a career-high four goals. Claire Pierce led the Pioneers with four goals.

The Rainbow Wahine never trailed in the match, however the Pioneers kept things close, as it was just a two-goal margin in the first half. UH created distance in the second half, after they scored eight more goals to seal in a 15-8 victory.

UH will play again tonight, as they face UC San Diego at 6:00 p.m. at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.
