Warriors Fall To Cougars; Win Streak Snapped

PROVO, Utah – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team saw its six-match win streak come to an end to No. 3 Brigham Young, 25-18, 25-20, 25-22, Thursday night in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Smith Fieldhouse.
 
The Warriors (12-10, 10-7 MPSF) come out flat to start the match and could not stop the potent Cougar offensive attack in losing in Provo for the seventh consecutive time. BYU (15-7, 11-6) hit .522 for the match and out-blocked the Warriors, 7.5-to-1.5.
 
All-American opposite Jonas Umlauft led Hawai'i with a match-high 18 kills while outside hitter Joshua Walker added 10 kills on .350 hitting. The duo combined for 28 of the team's 36 kills. As a team, UH hit .263 but had only one kill from its two middle blockers and only recorded one ace and one block.
 
Robb Stowell led BYU with 14 kills on .722 hitting while Taylor Sander added 11 on .450 hitting and Futi Tavana had 10 on .692 hitting.
 
UH never got on track in the first two sets falling behind early on. The Warriors showed some fight in the third set, however, the Cougars hit a blistering .773 with 17 kills and no errors in 23 attempts.
 
The teams play again Friday at 7:00 p.m. MT (3:00 p.m. HT). The game can be seen on BYUtv or heard on ESPN 1420AM.
