HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team lost today to Portland, 10-7. The Rainbows (6-9) allowed eight runs in the final two innings to squander a five-run lead. The Pilots improve to 8-5. 

The loss came despite an impressive performance by freshman starter Jarrett Arakawa who earned his first collegiate start. The 'Iolani School graduate tossed seven innings allowing two runs on four hits with five strikeouts. Lenny Linsky (0-1) was the pitcher of record for UH. 

Kolten Wong led the 'Bows at the plate, batting 4-5 with two RBI. Jeffrey Van Doornum and AJ Bayus each posted two hits and one run, with Bayus adding two RBI. 

Garrett Queen and Craig Smith both batted 2-4 to lead Portland, with reliever Brent Miller (1-0) earning the win. 

UH held a 6-1 lead after six innings. Kolten Wong delivered an RBI-double in the third inning, and A.J. Bayus belted a homerun over the left field wall to give UH the sizeable lead. But in the final two innings, a series of errors opened the door for the Pilots to steal the win. 

Breland Almadova recorded one hit and a game-high four runs scored.  

There were 3,005 tickets issued for the contest and a turnstile count of 1,930.  

The Rainbows and Pilots play their series finale tomorrow, March 13. Start time is set for 1:05 p.m.
