Day 2 Results

NAMPA, Idaho – The University of Hawai'i track and field team completed Day 2 of the 2011 Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships at Jackson's Track with one medal and a number of personal bests.

Entering Saturday's final day of competition, the Rainbow Wahine are in fifth place with 26.5 points. Utah State leads the team standings with 60 points followed by Nevada (50), Boise State (49), New Mexico State (31.5), UH, Fresno State (20), Louisiana Tech (19), and Idaho (16).

The highlight of the day for Hawai'i was senior Anika Borden's huge personal best in the weight throw. The Pearl City, O'ahu native eclipsed her previous best by nearly one meter with a throw of 56-11.25 (17.35m) to place fourth overall. In fact, all three Rainbow Wahine competitors threw personal bests, including junior Emma MacCorquodale (53-11.25/16.44m) and freshman Joanna Franke-Kuhn (50-2.5/15.30m).

For the first time in four years, UH did not capture a high jump gold medal at the championships. Junior Sarah Saddleton tied for second with a jump of 5-5.75 (1.67m), capturing a silver medal at the indoor championships for the third straight year and her fourth overall WAC medal, all silvers.

Teammate Samantha Balentine tied for sixth in the high jump with a mark of 5-3.75 (1.62m), one day after finishing fifth in the grueling pentathlon, where she also had the competition's top high jump mark.

Senior Ashley Aitken ran a personal best in the 800-meters at 2:13.33 and was one of eight qualifiers to Friday's final. Freshman Ashley Satterwhite posted a pair of personal bests in the 60-meters (7.96) and 200-meters (25.79) prelims, but did not qualify for either finals.

A pair of Rainbow Wahine scored team points in the pole vault competition. Senior Mallory Ramsey tied for fifth at 11-5.75 (3.50m) while freshman Kaleigh Morrison was seventh at 10-11.75 (3.35m).

The meet concludes on Saturday at Jackson's Track. Louisiana Tech is looking to capture its sixth consecutive women's team title.
