Rainbow Baseball Opens 2011 Season Against No. 9 Oregon Tonight

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team opens its 2011 campaign this week, hosting No. 9 Oregon at the Les Murakami Stadium from Friday, Feb. 18, to Monday, Feb. 21. 

The 2011 season will mark the 41st season of NCAA Division I baseball for UH. Hawai'i is coming off a 35-28 season where it won the Western Athletic Conference tournament and advanced to the NCAA Regional championship game in Tempe, Arizona. 

The 'Bows were picked to finish second in the WAC preseason order of finish, with Kolten Wong, Matt Sisto, Jeff Van Doornum, and Lenny Linsky named preseason all-WAC. Wong was named to three preseason All-America teams and Linsky was selected to the NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List.

When: Friday, Feb. 18 (6:35 p.m.), Saturday, Feb. 19 (6:35 p.m.), Sunday, Feb. 20 (1:05 p.m.), Monday, Feb. 21 (6:35 p.m.)
Where: Les Murakami Stadium
Television: KFVE-TV will broadcast all the games live. Jim Leahey (play-by-play) and Pal Eldredge (color commentary) will be the announcers.

Ticket Information: Individual game tickets are $8 in the lower and mid levels. Adult tickets in the upper level are $6, with senior citizens for $5 and student tickets in the upper level for $3. In addition to purchasing tickets online at HawaiiAthletics.com, fans can visit the Stan Sheriff Center Box Office, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., or call 944-2697 during the same hours.
Promotions: Outrigger Hotels & Resorts is the series sponsor and will distribute baseball caps to the first 300 fans that enter the stadium each day. Also, fans can register at the sports marketing table inside the main entrance for the chance to win prizes during the on-field promotional contest at the top of the fifth inning. There will be a T-Shirt Toss at the top of the fourth inning. Pre-season baseball publications (compliments of the Star-Advertiser) and roster sheets will be available on tables inside the main entrance. Rainbowtique will be selling various UH logoed items at their merchandise stand in the upper concourse.The team will be available for photos and autographs after each Friday home game during the 2011 season. Fans can proceed to the field via the stairs located at the lower level of Section J on the first-base side of the field. The players will be available on the field for 30 minutes during each "Autograph Friday." Fans are encouraged to bring items for the players to sign. Rainbowtique will be selling various UH logoed items at their merchandise stand in the upper concourse.
CoachesMike Trapasso (280-244) is in his 10th year at UH. George Horton (53-64) is in his third year at Oregon.
