HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team hit for a season-high .486 hitting percentage in a straight set win over California Baptist Friday night in a non-conference match at the Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores were 25-21, 25-21, 25-17.
 
 
The ninth-ranked Warriors (4-6) hit a staggering .650 in Set 1 and .560 in Set 3 while 
Jonas Umlauft (18), 
Joshua Walker (10), and 
Brennon Dyer (7) combined for 25 kills on .574 hitting. Umlauft had only three errors in 25 swings for a .600 percentage while Dyer did not commit an error in 13 attempts.
 
UH's previous high for a match was .459 against Stanford.
 
The Lancers (10-4), the top-ranked team in NAIA, hit .333 with Sebastien Steigmeier going for a team-high 13 kills and Levi Cabral adding nine kills with no errors in 17 attempts.
 
The teams combined for only five blocks in the match – three by CBU and two by UH.
 
UH led for the first half of Set 1 until the Lancers tied it at 16 following consecutive aces by Sebastien Steigmeier. The Warriors regained the lead and led 20-17 after a kill by Umlauft and ace by 
Nejc Zemljak. UH bunched together kills by Dyer and 
Steven Hunt for a 22-18 lead and sided-out to victory.
 
The Warriors led 9-5 to start Set 2. UH extended its lead to 14-9 after four straight points on back-to-back kills by Umlauft, ace by Walker and kill by Dyer. The Lancers never got within four points the rest of the way.
 
Hawai'i got off to another strong start in Set 3, leading 9-5 before the Lancers fought back to tie it at 11. But the Warriors broke open the set with a string of four straight points for a 21-16 lead.
 
The two teams will play again Saturday at War Memorial Gym on Maui. First serve is 5:00 p.m.
