Box Score Box Score

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team defeated Notre Dame on Tuesday, 25-15, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21. The Rainbow Wahine improve to 19-1 while the Fighting Irish drop to 11-8.

Jane Croson posted a match-high 19 kills to go along with 10 digs, and Kanani Danielson added 16 kills and 12 digs for her 12th double-double of the season. Brittany Hewitt recorded a match-high nine blocks, and Elizabeth Blake equaled a match-high 16 digs.

Kristen Dealy and Jeni Houser both had 13 kills to lead the Irish, with Dealy adding 16 digs.

The 'Bows controlled set one from the start. UH never trailed as Danielson and Kalei Adolpho (6 kills, 2 blks) each recorded a pair of kills to help their team to an 11-5 lead. A Hilary Eppink kill brought the Irish to within three points, but Hawai'i closed the set on a 10-3 run to win handily. Eppink finished the match with nine kills.

UH won set two in similar fashion. The 'Bows led by one point early, then broke the set open with a 10-1 run. A pair of service aces by Blake capped the mid-set run. Notre Dame climbed back into the set on consecutive kills by Houser, but Hawai'i built the lead back up to six points. After another Irish rally which cut the score to 21-18, Hawai'i called a timeout and scored four straight points to seal the win.

Set three saw Notre Dame prevent the 'Bows from winning their 10th straight set, but the win proved to be just a hiccup for UH. Chanteal Satele stemmed a late Notre Dame rally with two of her five kills, as UH put Notre Dame away in the fourth set to win the match.

There were 5,386 tickets issued for the match, and a turnstile count of 3,618.

The 'Bows return to conference play this weekend as they host Utah State on Friday, Oct. 21, followed by Idaho this Sunday, Oct 23. Between sets two and three of Friday's match, Natasha Kai, Brooke Wilkins, and the late Patsy Mink will be introduced as the 2011 inductees of the UH Sports Circle of Honor.
