AUSTIN, Texas – The No. 37 University of Hawai`i men's tennis team lost its second match in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend with a 4-0 loss to No. 34 Alabama Sunday at UT's Penick-Allison Tennis Center. The Rainbow Warriors dropped to 0-3 on the year.
After losing to No. 5 and host Texas on the first day of the event, which serves as the qualifiers for the 2011 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, the Rainbow Warriors met a similar fate against the Crimson Tide.
With top player and senior
Dennis Lajola sidelined for the day, the Rainbow Warriors dropped two of three doubles matches, then dropped the first three singles matchups in succumbing to Alabama. Three of the losses came in straight sets and the final three matches were suspended with the outcome determined.
David Schuster was up one set in his match on the No. 6 court, while
Jeremy Tweedt was tied, 1-1, with Jarryd Botha on the No. 2 court when play was suspended.
Despite losing the doubles point, the 'Bows did get a win in doubles from the pair of Tweedt and
Daniel Llarenas who took out Ricky Doverspike and Vikram Reddy on the No. 1 court.
Next up for UH is a three-match road swing through Southern California, beginning with a match against San Diego State on Feb. 22 at 2:30 p.m. PT.
