Rainbow Wahine Swimming Defeats Seattle To Start Season

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine swimming and diving team defeated Seattle University 146-86 in their first dual meet of the season at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex Friday, winning 11 of the 13 events on the day.
 
Melissa Myers and Maura Barrett led the way for UH, both winning two individual events apiece. Myers won the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 10:24.56, also taking the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:07.15. Barrett won the 50 freestyle at 23.90 and the 100 freestyle at 51.92. Barrett also swam the lead-off leg in UH's winning 400-freestyle relay team.
 
Other Hawai'i winners were Thea Accornero in the 200 freestyle (1:54.74), Hayden Maclean in the 200 individual medley (2:08.82), Maddie Takaki in the 200 butterfly (2:09.87), Hannah Bocksnick in the one-meter dive (194.02) and Daniella Nero in the three-meter dive (268.20).
 
UH also won both relays. The team of Accornero, Valerie Pagett, Ricarda Schellenberg and Takaki won the 400 medley relay (3:59.79). Barrett, Accornero, Maclean and Alyssa Hozak made up the team that won the 400 freestyle relay (3:33.65).
 
Hawai'i and Seattle will again compete on Saturday, Oct. 16 at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatics Complex.
