AUSTIN, Texas — University of Hawai'i swimmer Arianna Sakellaris became the first ever Rainbow Wahine swimmer to earn CSC Academic All-America honors in program history. Sakellaris was voted to the third team on Tuesday.
Sakellaris is a graduate student majoring in clinical research. She is one of just 30 women's swim and dive athletes to be named to the NCAA Division I Academic All-America teams selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). The award was previously known as the CoSIDA Academic All-America.
The native of Zurich, Switzerland was one of four Rainbow Wahine to earn CSC Academic All-District honors for the first time in her career on April 1. She was also named to the Academic All-Big West team on April 14. Outside of school, Sakellaris participated in the Women Speaking Out event at the Swing Fore Love Charity Golf Invitational earlier this year.
At the Big West Championship, Sakellaris helped set a new Big West record and earned gold as a member of the 400 free relay team with a time of 3:20.04, and an individual split of 50.61. She also claimed bronze as a part of the 800 free relay squad while posting a split of 1:49.89.
Sakellaris posted a trio of top 10 times in her first season with the program, including the fifth fastest time in the 1000 free (10:02.63), the ninth fastest mark in the 500 free (4:52.53) and the ninth fastest swim in the 1650 free (16:59.08).
Sakellaris also earned eight podium finishes in individual events during the regular season, including wins in the 1000 free during dual meets with Grand Canyon and UC Santa Barbara.
To qualify for the Academic All-America teams, student-athletes must have earned Academic All-District honors, be at least a sophomore, maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average, and compete in five competitions or finish top-eight at a conference meet.
