Warriors Begin Long Road Trip With Pac-10’s Washington State

Game Notes

The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team begins its longest stretch of road games in 45 years when it plays at Washington State, Saturday, Sept. 12, in Seattle, Wash. The non-conference game will be played at the Seattle Seahawks' 67,000-seat Qwest Field.

For the Warriors (1-0, 0-0 WAC), the game marks the first of three consecutive road games, a first for the program since 1964. The trip to Seattle is the start of a two-game, 11-day road trip, which also takes the Warriors to Las Vegas, Nev., to play the Mountain West Conference's Rebels, Sept. 19.

UH is coming off a 25-20 come-from-behind victory over Central Arkansas last Friday. Greg Alexander found Rodney Bradley in the back of the endzone for the go-ahead score with 1:22 left to play. Hawai'i trailed for the entire first half before scoring 17 unanswered. Slotback Greg Salas' 66-yard catch-and-run set up the game-winning score.

For his efforts, Salas was honored as the Western Athletic Conference's offensive player of the week.

Washington State (0-1, 0-1 Pac-10) opened its season with a 39-13 home loss to Stanford. The Cougars finished 2-11 last season, which included a season-ending 24-10 loss to the Warriors at Aloha Stadium. UH secured its seventh win that season and accepted an invitation to the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl.

UH and WSU have met four previous times with each team winning twice. All four games were played in Honolulu.

Hawai'i's last trip to Seattle occurred in 1973 as UH upset the Washington Huskies, 10-7. UW was favored by as many as 50 points over the Division II Hawai'i team.
