Schedule Of Events At California Hotel & Casino
LAS VEGAS – The University of Hawai'i Warrior football team continues with its two-game, 11-day road trip with a non-conference match-up against UNLV, Saturday, Sept. 19. Kickoff is 8:00 p.m. PT (5:00 p.m. HT) at Sam Boyd Stadium.
The Warriors (2-0) are coming off a 38-20 win at Washington State, the program's first road victory over a BCS conference team. UH piled up 626 yards of total offense - the most since the 2006 Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl - and were led by
Greg Alexander, the Western Athletic Conference offense player of the week, who threw for a career-high 453 yards and three touchdowns. Receivers
Greg Salas (195 yards, 1 TD) and
Rodney Bradley (150 yards, 2 TDs) combined for 345 yards receiving and three scores.
Defensively, the Warriors forced seven Cougar turnovers and raced out to a 35-0 lead, just five minutes into the second quarter.
Mana Silva picked off two WSU passes while linebacker
Corey Paredes, the WAC's defensive player of the week, had eight tackles, including one sack, and forced two fumbles.
The Rebels (1-1) suffered a 23-21 defeat to Oregon State, who kicked the go-ahead field goal with seven seconds left in the game. Backup quarterback Mike Clausen rallied UNLV with two fourth-quarter touchdown passes which give the Rebels a 21-20 lead with 4:16 left.
The teams have met 18 previous times with UH holding a 12-6 edge. The Warriors won the last two meetings, in 2006 (42-13) and in 2007 (49-14). In games played in Las Vegas, Hawai'i leads 5-4. In that 2007 game in Las Vegas, the Rebels scored on their opening possession before Warriors responded with 42 unanswered points for a 49-14 victory. Quarterback Colt Brennan passed for 298 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for three scores.
