Tournament Notes
FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Hawai'i softball team opens the 2009 Western Athletic Tournament against Louisiana Tech on Wednesday, May 6 at 7 p.m. PT. The tournament is being held at Bulldog Diamond on the campus of Fresno State.
UH enters the tournament as the No. 3 seed and will face the Lady Techsters, who moved up to the No. 4 seed this past weekend. It is the fourth straight year that the 'Bows will open the tournament with Louisiana Tech. The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to battle either the winner or loser of the game between No. 2 seed Nevada and No. 5 Seed New Mexico State.
The Rainbow Wahine finished the regular season with an overall record of 29-22 and a conference record of 15-6. Hawai`i was able to capture all but one series against Nevada this year and ended last weeked with a sweep over Boise State.
This is the fifth year since the return of the WAC Tournament. Last season the 'Bows hosted the tournament for the first time, but the rest of the tourneys have been held in Fresno, Calif. The tournament is in a double-elimination format.
