No. 13 Men’s Volleyball Comes Up Short Against Top-Ranked UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai`i men's volleyball team lost for the second straight night to top-ranked UC Irvine, 3-0, at the Bren Center on the UC Irvine campus Friday night in Southern California.
 
The Warriors fell in straight sets for the second straight game. On the season UH is now 6-15 overall and 3-13 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. UC Irvine improved to 19-3 overall and 14-2 in conference action.
 
Overall, Brennon Dyer led the way with 11 kills and five digs, while Sean Carney added 10 kills and five digs. Gus Tuaniga had seven kills and Nejc Zemljak had 28 assists to lead the offense.
 
In the first set, UH fell 30-19 and had seven service errors. The Warriors had nine kills overall and were led by Josh Walker, who had five kills.
 
UH cut into the lead for UC Irvine in the second set, but it wasn't enough as the Anteaters held on for a 30-24 win. Dyer had eight kills and two blocks in the set and Zemljak added 11 assists.
 
The third set went back-and-forth with UC Irvine pulling out the tough 32-30 win. Carney had five kills and an ace in the set.
 
The Warriors return to the islands for school, before traveling to UCLA on April 2 for the first match and finish their two-match series on April 3. Both matches begin at 7 p.m. PST in Los Angeles.
