No. 13 Men’s Volleyball Drops First Match Against No. 1 UC Irvine

IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai`i men's volleyball team dropped the first match of a two-game series against top-ranked UC Irvine, 3-0, Thursday night at the Bren Center in Irvine, Calif.
 
The Warriors conclude their series with the Anteaters on Friday, March 26 at 7 p.m. PST. With the loss UH falls to 6-14 overall and 3-12 in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play. UC Irvine improves to 18-3 overall and remains in first place with a 13-2 conference mark.
 
UH didn't hit well in the first set and fell 30-17. UC Irvine took the second set 30-25 as the Warriors hit .308 as a team. In the third set UH fought hard but fell up short 30-26 to end the match.
 
Overall Sean Carney led the way for the Warriors, finishing with 11 kills and hitting .231 for the match. Brennon Dyer and Gus Tuaniga each recorded five kills and Nejc Zemljak had 27 assists.
 
UC Irvine was led by Taylor Wilson who recorded a match-high 15 kills and Jordan DuFault added nine kills for the Anteaters.
 
After the Warriors finish up their road trip to UC Irvine, they will come home before playing at UCLA next week in MPSF play.
